Ní féidir linn dul abhaile?

One of the Chinook helicopters that accompanied US President Barack Obama to Ireland which was damaged by the high winds that swept across the country at the time of the visit remains in Dublin Airport today.

Why is it still here? Is it not worth bringing home? Nobody seems to know. In the Celtic Tiger years someone wealthy socialite would no doubt have purchased the aircraft on a whim but in these more frugal times could it possibly be left to rust in a far flung corner of Dublin Airport? With a price tag when fully functional of around $35 million, I sincerely doubt it but the US State Department have yet to clarify the situation.

On Derek Mooney’s RTE radio programme yesterday, Supermac’s Pat McDonagh suggested that he might use it in the new Obama Plaza he is building in Moneygall……..perhaps to provide a Supermacs delivery service to Toomevara and Shinrone.

We’ll have to wait and see
